About Lemhi Title
Known History of Lemhi Title:
Lemhi Title was incorporated in Salmon, Idaho in February of 1907 by G.B. Quarles,
a local Attorney and business man, W.C. Smith, local business man who served
as county recorder for a time, Thomas Kane, local business man, rancher &
entrepreneur, Louis F. Ramey, local rancher who served Lemhi County as State
Senator, and P.J. Dempsey.
The Herndon family purchased the business sometime in the mid 1900’s
with Charles, a local Attorney, and Lucille owning a one half interest and Joe
and Margie owning the other half.
Charles Herndon passed away while campaigning for Governor of Idaho. His son,
James C. Herndon, also a local attorney, acquired one half interest in the business
shortly thereafter.
Erin Robie began working with the Herndon family in 1968 and purchased Joe
and Margie Herndon’s interest in 1975. His wife Linda joined the operation
in the 1980's.
James C. Herndon and Erin & Linda Robie continued to own and operate the
business until 1986 when James C. Herndon was appointed to be a District Judge
by then Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus. James C. Herndon and his family then moved
to Blackfoot, Idaho.
James C. Herndon took on a local rancher’s son as a Law School Intern
in 1971 named Milton A. (Jock) Slavin. Herndon and Slavin Law Office was opened
in 1973 and with the appointment of James C. Herndon to the judiciary in 1986
Jock Slavin began working more on real estate and legal issues with the Robies
in the title business.
During casual conversations with Jock between 2001 and 2003, Erin mentioned
that he was getting closer to retiring. Jock had a son (M. Chace Slavin) who
was attending law school and dating his future wife, Daniela. Jock talked to
Chace and Daniela and relayed back to Erin that Chace and Daniela were interested
in purchasing Lemhi Title.
Erin & Linda Robie and James C. & Tommye Herndon sold Lemhi Title to
M. Chace & Daniela Slavin the second of January 2006. They have recently
moved the offices to the River's Edge Mall on Main Street, in Salmon. You can
feel confident that with this long history in the valley, the folks at Lemhi
Title can helpyou with any real estate purchase.
